Fitzpatrick Farrier Services, Inc. will be sponsoring several
clinics featuring Esco Buff, PhD, CF at the seventh annual Equine Affaire at the Pomona Fairplex in Pomona, CA!
Esco Buff, PhD, CF is the owner of Dr. Esco Buff's Farrier and Founder Service located in Western,
New York. He is an American Farriers Association Certified Farrier with 32 years experience trimming and shoeing horses. Esco
was introduced to blacksmithing and farrier work through his association with the Boy Scouts of America while at Philmont
Scout Ranch in Cimarron, New Mexico. Esco is a graduate of New Mexico State Farrier School under Mogan I. "Razz" Rasmussen
and the Illinois State Horseshoeing School. He holds a Bachelor of Science in Psychology, a Master in Science, and a Doctorate
in Business Administration. Esco Buff is dedicated to excellence in horse foot care.
Dr. Buff is a leader in the field of foundered and limb length disparity horeshoeing. He is
the creator and author of Founder Data Collection and Analysis Form and Equine Digit Radiograph Form, the books,
Founder Data Collection and Analysis- How to take, read and interpret radiographs for the prognosis and treatment of the
foundered horse and Limb Length Disparity- Equine Anisomelia. He not only lectures and conducts clinics both nationally
and internationally, he also writes articles that are published in several farrier magazines and yearly submits papers to
AAEP, American Association of Equine Practitioners.
Dr. Buff has documented and shod over 625 new foundered cases during 1991-2003. He had a 98%
survival rate with these horses. Of these 83% returned to their original state of soundness, 15% were unable to return to
their original state of soundness and 2% were euthanized. Because of Dr. Esco Buff, a donkey that had lost its entire coffin
bone is still alive and is running and playing more than two and a half years later.
Dr. Buff approaches balancing the horse by incorporating the principles of Holism. In farrier
work this means that isolated symptoms are considered secondary to the total physical state. Therefore, balance is performed
by looking at the whole body of the horse. Esco accomplishes this through a more traditional approach or by using long established
ways of trimming and shoeing while incorporating Holism to achieve balance.
Through applying the principles of hoof balance, biomechanics and holistic body balance, Esco
creates sound horses with healthy functioning feet.
His professionalism, knowledge, enthusiasm and dedication reflects his love for the horse and
his trade.

AFA Pre-Certification Clinic
Lake Hughes, CA.
2004
~ press release ~
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE:
AMERICAN FARRIERS ASSOCIATION, FITZPATRICK FARRIER SERVICES
INC. and SOUTHERN CALIFORNIA FARRIERS DEDICATED to ADVANCING SKILL and KNOWLEDGE at LOCAL CLINIC.
August 14 and 15, 2004 -- Fitzpatrick Farrier Services, Inc.
, a local farrier practice in Lake Elizabeth will be sponsoring and hosting a pre-certification clinic for Southern California
farriers who are dedicated to continuing their education and advancing their skill and knowledge in the field of farriery
. The clinic will be held August 14th and 15th at Rancho Corona Del Valle in Lake Hughes courtesy of Marge and Vern Biehl.
The American Farriers Association will be providing educator, publisher for the AFA's Professional Farrier Magazine and
President/CEO of Ink & Anvil, Inc., Scott Davidson, CJF for the clinic.
The clinic is a two-day workshop designed to educate farriers
to an industry standard. There are no laws currently requiring licensing or certification to be a farrier. However, the American
Farrier’s Association (AFA) has a certification program that insures different skill levels for a farrier that has completed
the level. The two levels of AFA certification are the AFA Certified Farrier and the AFA Certified Journeyman Farrier. An
Intern Classification is also available as an initial step toward certification. The American Farrier’s Association
(AFA) began a nationwide, standardized certification program in 1980. The AFA consolidated certification tests being administered
by various state associations to provide both continuing educational opportunities and standardized testing procedures. Having
grown steadily, the AFA now administers over 450 tests at 35 or more sites each year.
" Continuing education is crucial in any profession and farriers
are not exempt from the importance of constantly upgrading their knowledge and skills." says Brian Fitzpatrick, Farrier and
CEO of Fitzpatrick Farrier Services, Inc. " If the clinic is a success we are considering having one annually and possibly
a clinic for horseowners as well".
